The one thing I have missed while I was away this summer was my console. I had only had it for about two months when I had to leave for a month of summer camp, so it was still fairly new to me. I was already hooked on it though. Not in the sense of not being able to live without it, but in the sense of loving it.
When my mom first showed me it, I was very surprised that she had gone to buy Nintendo dsi for me. She had never really been in favor of me playing stuff like that, so I was a bit taken aback. She hates the fact that for most kids, gaming consumes their attention so they just stop having other hobbies.
When she gave it to me, she said there would be restrictions and my time would be limited. I was fine with that. Frankly, I was just happy to have it. She also told me that one of the reasons she hadn’t wanted me to have one was because she thought I wouldn’t be able to keep up with my chores, my schoolwork, and my other hobbies if I had one. She wasn’t sure I’d take care of one either, and given how much they cost, I think it was a valid worry on her part.
I promised to take care of it, and she said that I had proven my maturity over and over again. I think she knows I always take good care of my stuff, so she didn’t have any real doubts. I meant to bring it with me when I went to camp, but somehow, I forgot it. I know that sometimes it’s good to have a break from the things that we give our time to, but I really did miss it.
While I was at camp, though, I talked to a lot of other kids who have the same console, and I learned some amazing stuff. For example, before I left, I didn’t know it came with an audio player. It’s not that I wouldn’t have figured that out eventually, but I just hadn’t discovered that feature yet.
My mom says she read some Nintendo dsi review pages before she bought it, and now she’s really glad she made the purchase. Apparently, it’s one of the highest rated game consoles among both handhelds and standard sizes, so, we are both happy that I am home and having fun.
