I had been gone for about a year, but I recently returned home to live with my family again. I went to Spain for a year as an exchange student, and while I was there, I made many friends, lived with a family who treated me as if I were one of their own and seriously developed my second language skills during my time there.
I looked forward to coming home, though. After all, I did miss my own family more than I thought possible. At the same time, though, I knew that there was a chance I might never see any of my new family or friends again. I was both happy and sad about leaving Spain.
One thing that has made my return to my own home easier than I anticipated was the gift my family gave me as a homecoming present. They actually decided to buy DSI for me, hoping that the new features would make my transition easier. Honestly, it has. Not only did they buy one for me, but they also invested in two more and had them sent to my host family in Spain and one of my good friends there.
When you buy DSI, you are buying more than a simple console. You are investing in a different method of communication too. Since my host family, my friend and I all have a system, I can play titles with them. Not only that, but we can chat and share photos too.
My host brother had a birthday two weeks after I left. I was able to see some of the party because he turned on the interactive camera. It was the next best thing to being there. I am so blessed to have a family that thought of giving me such a wonderful gift. My homecoming was wonderful, ensuring I wouldn’t lose touch with my new family and friends has made it even better than it would have been.
I have even carried on conversations with my host mother. Of course her son had to help her learn to use the chat mode, but it worked out well. I am so grateful to my parents for thinking of such a gift. It has made it possible for me to feel like I am still a part of the lives of my new family and friends, even from this great distance. This system has allowed me to do more than any other I have owned and has made a great difference in my life already.
