I’m one of those moms who has always tried to make sure that the activities my kids engage in are three-fold in nature: good for them, beneficial to the family, and help meet my goals of having them grow up into responsible and healthy adults. Those things helped me make the decision to allow them to have Nintendo dsi to play with.
For a few years, when my oldest two kids were younger, I was strongly against any type of video game console for my kids. As the kids got older and I saw the things they and their friends are interested in, I decided to look into video game systems as a possible option for my family.
What I found when I looked into the possible options amazed me. I found that with this system, there is more for them and for me than simply gaming. As a mom who decided to buy dsi for my kids and who was once hesitant to even consider it, I can say with all honesty that it may be one of the best things I have done to promote family fun.
I have four kids, all of them now over 10. I made it a point to get 2 systems, so that at least two could play at once. That turned out to not be enough, which is fine with me. So, when the next payday came along, I invested in two more. Now there are enough to go around.
What I learned as a mom is that kids being happy and having fun together doesn’t mean they all have to be together. With the modern technology offered by this tiny console, my kids can play with friends who live far away, with a brother or sister in another room, and even with me when I am out of town on business.
There is an option that I love even more than the playing, though, and that is the photo sharing. I have had a blast with seeing how creative my kids can be with the two cameras and all the lenses that came with it. I also love the way each child has helped the others when they are stuck about how to do something or learning new applications.
I’m a mom who decided to buy dsi for my family, and I am so glad I did. It has given us even more to do together, and it has helped my kids learn some new skills along the way. Technology is great, but when it promotes family fun, it is even better.
