More Fun, More Options

General

We had a house fire a few months ago. We didn’t lose a lot, but we lost enough to set us back in terms of entertainment at home. The fire was in the family room, and it took out the TV, game systems, videos, and our entire dvd collection.

The financial expense of replacing everything would have been atrocious, so my parents decided not to replace some of the stuff right away so they could replace things one by one. One thing that wasn’t going to get replaced right away were our consoles. We did make amends, though. Rather than getting my brother and me a full sized system, they bought us each a Nintendo dsi.

They spent less money on them than it would have taken to replace our others, but now that we have them, we realize that it really was only a downgrade in terms of size. The quality of products combined with the quantity of fun and interactive options is much higher than what we had before. I am really happy with the purchase, and in a way, I feel more blessed now than I did before we lost the stuff in the fire.

When my best friend saw my new console, he went out to buy dsi too. Now, I can play with him and my brother. I am having so much fun with this. Learning how to download games, applications, and music for it is awesome, and I’ve also learned how to use the chatting and photo sharing options, which are a lot of fun.

I know that my parents felt bad about downgrading. My brother and I made sure to tell them that their decision to buy dsi, rather than the bigger and more expensive options, wasn’t a problem. It was actually an upgrade if you look at all the things we can do with it that we couldn’t do with the other consoles we owned before.

Our house has been repaired, and we have gotten a new TV and replaced some of the other equipment we had lost. That’s good, but the best thing that I think came out of all of this is that we learned that you don’t have to spend more money in order to make better choices. My parents and my brother agree with me. Now, with what was thought to be something not as good, we have more options and more fun. I’m not glad we had the fire, but I am glad we got these new handhelds.
