I have had a first generation Game Boy, which was not great. You had to sit with the screen at just the right angle to even see what was going on in whatever game you were playing. Then the Game Boy Advance came out, and it was like Nintendo heard me complaining about the lack of backlighting. The screen was plenty bright enough to play games, and they made it with the hinge in the center so you can shut the game. Then they came out with the Nintendo DS and I had to get one. I was extremely disappointed in that though, for the same reason the first generation Game Boy stunk- no backlighting. I mostly played my GBA even though I had a DS. Then they came out with the DS Lite, and even the name got me all excited. They added the backlighting, so I started playing the Lite all the time. Now they are coming out with the Nintendo DSi, and of course I can’t wait the get one. This is an unprecedented third generation in the DS line, and so it’s got to be the best Nintendo portable system yet. It seems like the makers of the Nintendo systems actually listen to what customers say and make changes to their systems accordingly. I want to buy Nintendo DSi right now, but they won’t be released until Spring 2009. From what I have been reading, it has already been released in Japan and people there are totally loving it.
There are some other really great features that Nintendo DSi reviews are talking about, like the bigger screen size on both screens, and the slimmer build that will make it even easier to carry in a pocket. Apparently they took out the GBA slot to make room for an SD memory card slot- that will remove some of its backward compatibility, which was something I liked about the DS Lite. But the memory card slot will be a great feature since they have added a digital camera! That is too cool- a portable video game with a built in digital camera! How great is that! I don’t know how great the picture quality will be, but I guess I will find out when I buy Nintendo DSi.
I just read that they added a new and improved backlighting feature to the brand new version of the Nintendo DSi system. Instead of the old settings on the DS Lite, the new DSi will have five different backlighting levels. I’m big on backlit screens. It’s a bummer to only be able to play a game system in certain light conditions or at a certain time of the day. But besides all that, the biggest reason I want to buy Nintendo DSi is so I can try out the online features. I have never had a portable game system with WiFi internet access, and I think that will be really cool. It will have an online store just like the Wii has so I can just go online through the DSi and download games- I’m hoping entire games so that I don’t have to go to the store and ‘hope’ that they have the game I want. At this point, I just need to know where to buy Nintendo DSi so I can be at the front of the line. Sign me UP!
