Nintendo DSi Reviews

I consider myself, in many ways, to be a video game connoisseur. I don’t own tons of video game consoles, but I’ve played every video game that has ever existed (well, every one that I know of). I do own quite a few consoles and feel that I’m much more able to review a game system than most experts are, simply because I’m not in the business and never have been. So when I decided to buy the Nintendo DSi, it’s natural that I’d want to review it.

The Look

The Nintendo DSi looks great, because it looks a lot like the DS does, and most people love how the DS looks. It is a little slimmer, which is nice, and the screen is a bit bigger, which is also nice, but in reality it looks very much like the DS did, so they didn’t improve on it any. But in reality, can the DS be improved upon when it comes to looks? Probably not.

The Feel

It feels, again, much like the DS. When you buy Nintendo DSi, you may be tricked at first, feeling like you’re buying the DS all over again. You’re not. The system may look and feel like the DS, but once you run it you’ll notice the difference.

How it Works

It’s comforting to know instantly how to insert the cartridge and how to charge the batteries, as it is so much like the DS. Once you turn it on, however, you’ll notice the difference. This baby is fast. Really fast. Much faster than the DS. And the graphics, which weren’t horrible on the DS, are better. The screen allows you to choose how much you’d like to rely on the backlight, which means that you can see Mario’s face really easily.

The Games

There aren’t many games out yet for the system, but there are some that have been released in Japan already, and from what the DSi reviews say about them, they’re excellent. More than excellent. I can’t wait for the games to be translated and made playable for the American version, so that when people find out where to buy DSi, they can find more games to buy with it so that they can get full use out of it.

If you’re wondering if you should buy a Nintendo DSi or not, my two cents is that if you’re someone who loves gaming, you definitely should. The DSi plays much differently than the DS, but with the same feeling as the DS, making you feel like you’ve come home, but to a much snazzier, nicer home than you remember. It’s definitely a pleasant surprise, and if the Nintendo company keeps coming out with these amazing systems, they’re definitely not going to be beat by Sony or any other company that tries to out-do them. Way to go Nintendo.
