Nintendo DSi Reviews

The DSi is the only toy my son plays with.

My son is twelve, and he always sees the commercials on TV for remote control airplanes and different cars, and all sorts of boy type toys.  When he was younger, he used to have fun with those.  And sometimes, we get him one and it invariably breaks within days.  They just don’t make toys like they used to- for that matter they don’t make anything like they used to.  But when we decided to buy Nintendo DSi for him, we didn’t think that it would be the best and favorite toy in his whole room.  None of his other toys even get played with anymore, and he’s actually been giving some of them away to charity.  Now, instead of buying him toys, we can just go out and buy DSi games for him, or we let him download them off the online DSi shop right from his DSi.  It’s nice to be able to download games because if there’s a game he wants to play, we don’t have to hunt around and figure out where to get the games for him.  He can just go online with the DSi’s internet feature and pick out the ones he wants.  There are tons of DS games in the store, and a lot of them have gotten cheaper since the DSi games started coming out, but the old DS games work just fine and he has a blast.  He’s really quiet a lot of the time, just sitting in his room and playing games.  He don’t mind that at all, but sometimes we have to make him put it down and go outside just to get some sunshine and run around for a while.  Ever since we decided to buy Nintendo DSi for him, he hasn’t been bored even once that he’s told us about, and that’s a good thing.

The system is more than just a game system and an online game store.  It also has a digital camera, a fact I learned by having my son snap a surprise picture of me while I was washing dishes.  It also has a music player, so he can listen to music and the speakers work pretty well for that.  It actually sounds like music, unlike some other small devices with external speakers- sometimes on those little hand held devices the sound quality is kind of crummy.  We are really pleased with how well built the DSi is, too.  I don’t know how many times I’ve seen him drop that thing.  Every time he does it, I just cringe, thinking “Great, now we’ll have to buy him a new one”, but it always keeps working.  That’s a pretty tough toy.  I mean, I’m sure it wouldn’t fare too well if a person were to say, run over it with a car, but for the everyday drops and bangs that kids are likely to subject their kids to, if stands up pretty well.  So that’s the end of my review, and I’d have to say to parents who are thinking about buying one, go ahead and do it.  You won’t be sorry.
