My son is a senior in high school right now, and he will be graduating in June. I had been looking high and low for a great graduation present that I can afford and that he can take away to college with him. After reading a Nintendo DSi review, I’ve decided that it would be the perfect present for him. He can play games on it when he’s bored, he can carry it around with him so that he can play the games in between classes, and it’s really small so he’ll be able to pack it in his trunk when he packs up to leave. I think that he will be really happy with a Nintendo DSi- maybe not as happy as he would be with a brand new car, but like I said, his gift does have to be something that I can afford. There is no way I can afford a new car, but I can surely afford to buy Nintendo DSi and some games for it. Call me overprotective, but I really like that none of the DS games are rated M. I guess that’s something that moms worry about no matter how old their kids get. There’s enough violence in the world without kids being exposed to it in their ‘fun’ video games too. But that’s not the reason I want to buy Nintendo DSi for my son. I want to get it for him because I really think he’s going to need something fun to do when he’s not in class and studying and sleeping. When kids get bored, they get into trouble and I’d much rather have him stay in his dorm room playing his Nintendo DSi system than go out with troublemakers and get drunk or anything like that. I guess I’m just planning ahead for him to do the best he can. It’s good that the new game system is getting so much attention, because there are actually a couple of online stores that are accepting preorders for it, so I know just where to buy Nintendo DSi when the time comes.
The one thing I need to find out for sure before I buy Nintendo DSi is whether or not he will need to have an internet account with an internet provider while he’s off at school in order to be able to use the internet part. I know that it says WiFi internet, but I’m not quite sure what that means. Does that mean that he can get on the internet through the DSi anywhere without a problem, or will he have to have the phone company hook him up with an internet account and then he’d only be able to use the internet part in his dorm room? I haven’t been able to find out that information yet but hopefully that information will come with the DSi if nothing else. Even if that part doesn’t work all the time, he’ll still be able to play games, so I’m not too concerned about it.
