Thinking about getting a DSi

Nintendo DSi Reviews

I am a thirty seven year old mother of three, and I am thinking about getting a Nintendo DSi system- not for my kids just yet, but for myself.  They already have DS Lites of their own, and I have been looking around on the internet and reading a lot of the Nintendo DSi reviews available, and I think it looks like a pretty good deal.  I haven’t gotten a new game system since I bought my Game Boy Advance, and I think I’m ready for a change.  But since I know that as soon as my kids learn about the new Nintendo DSi, they’ll want one of those, and I’m a cautious parent.  I want to get one of them and test it out on my own before I go spending the money to buy Nintendo DSi for three kids.

I guess what I am concerned about it the internet capability.  Although I’ve done a lot of reading on it, I still can’t tell whether or not the game will have full internet service and a browser just like a desktop, or if it is only access to the DSi shop and to a certain website to play games with other people.  Also, I’m not sure if the kids will be able to do full chatting if I buy Nintendo DSi for them, or if it will only be game play.  I know that now they can do the pictochat feature with the DS Lites, but that is only amongst themselves and only if there are close enough together.  When I took my son to the doctor, he was too far away to chat with his siblings on the pictochat, and that’s only about fifteen blocks away.  It would be neat if I could buy Nintendo DSi for them all the then they could chat with each other when they’re clear across town or even farther.  But I’d get nervous if they had that same kind of chatting ability with people I don’t know.  Maybe that makes me a worry wart or an overprotective mother, but I would feel much better trying it out on my own first just to see what the system is capable of before I go buying the system for them too.

Just as soon as they come out on the market, I am going to find out where to buy Nintendo DSi and try it out for a few weeks.  It probably won’t be hard to find, I would imagine that any store that currently sells with Nintendo DS Lite will probably sell the DSi as well.  I guess I’ll have to buy some games as well, since the Game Boy games I have won’t work in the DSi.  I think I’m due for a nice new thing anyway.  Like I said, I haven’t had a new game system in a long time, and I’m going to thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to treat myself to something fun.  I hope it will work for the kids too though.
