When I was younger, I used to love playing video games. I remember begging my mother to buy me a Sega, and looking on in awe when the Playstation was invented. I purchased my first Super Nintendo as soon as I could, and even used to play online games back when all you could do was write text.
Then I got married. And had children. And got responsible. And I started realizing that I had little to no time to play any of the video games that I used to love to play. All of my old games got stashed in a closet where they did nothing but gather dust. My wife has tried to sell them, but even though I have no time to play them, I refuse to let them be sold. Maybe by the time I can get them out again, they’ll be collectors’ items!
Then I realized that my gaming days don’t have to be at an end just because I’m a parent and work full time. My kids have a few different activities that, due to my work schedule, I am able to bring them to, so I bought a DS in order to play something while I was waiting for them to get done their activities. I was extremely impressed. I was able to get in some good play time while I was waiting.
I plan to buy Nintendo DSi as soon as it comes out. I only have a few games for the DS, so it is a good time to switch, since when I get one I won’t be able to play my old DS games. It intrigues me that I’m going to be able to take pictures with the DSi, and that I can listen to music as well. I probably won’t use it for music as much, but my wife loves music so it will be a good excuse to buy it!
I also like that I can take my gaming online again. The DS has some games you can play online, but from what I’m reading with the Nintendo DSi reviews, it looks like the online component is much stronger this time around, making the graphics better and giving you a better online connection, which is a good thing for someone who is a serious online player. While I’m not a serious online player, I definitely like being able to connect well.
I’m not sure yet if I’ll buy a DSi right when it comes out or if I’ll wait to find where to get one for the best deal. I know I won’t get it cheaper, but I’m also curious about getting some great accessories with the DSi system. I want to thank Nintendo for allowing me to be a husband, and a dad, without losing the ability to play games a bit as well.
