Nintendo DSi

The one thing that my son wanted for Christmas was a DS. He has been begging for one for over a year, ever since he learned that one of his good friends had one and was able to try it. I have limited financial resources, which is just a fancy way of saying that I can’t afford to go out and buy every video game system that pops up. This is why my son has, up until now, only had a few different video game systems.

I had saved up some money, though, and was going to buy the DS for him for his birthday. Now, however, I’m thinking that I should wait and buy the Nintendo DSi instead. I’ve been reading the reviews and it looks like the DSi is going to be a much better system for him, and that it will be a system that I will be able to play with him as well.

Buying the DSi

When I first thought about buying the DS, I knew that we would have to spend money to buy the games that go with it. When I purchase a Nintendo DSi, however, the games for the DS won’t play in the DSi, so it makes more sense, financially, to wait and to get it instead.

It looks like it does everything that the DS does, and much more. I can’t believe that there’s a camera inside of the game system. I mean, how much can they fit in there? Not only can a kid play games, they can listen to music and take pictures, and I even saw one site that talked about there being a pedometer that you can get for it as well.

All of the reviews that I’ve read are absolutely glowing and make it look as though the DSi is going to beat out the DS in regards to sales really quickly. I do know a bit about game systems, and know that Nintendo puts out much more kid-friendly games than most of the other video game companies do, and if I’m going to have my 10 year old playing a hand held gaming system, which he can play anywhere and at any time and which is much harder to monitor, I want him playing one which has kid-friendly titles.

I am wondering where to get it, and I’m pretty sure that I’ll be buying it online. From what I’ve heard, though, it may take a few weeks before we can get a hold of one, because they even sold out in Japan, which, to me, is crazy. I wish that it were going to be released before his birthday, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s going to be. I do know, though, that once my son gets the system he’s going to be the envy of all of his friends, for one of the first times.
