I remember when I was really little and the only game we had available to play was an Atari. Unlike the soon-to-be-released Nintendo DSi system, the Atari was stationary and had to be hooked up to a television in order to make it work. Back then we had no handheld gaming units, and when they eventually did come out, they were black and white and had horrible graphics. Not that graphics meant a lot back then – heck, we were just happy to see something moving on a screen that was powered by batteries!
Now, however, Nintendo and other game makers have discovered different ways to make really sweet hand held games, which is why it’s so easy to get addicted to them. And I definitely am. By the time I buy one, I will have owned at least six different handheld gaming systems, including the original Gameboy, the Gameboy Advance, and the DS. But I can’t wait for the DSi.
New Features
From the Nintendo DSi reviews that I’ve managed to dig up so far (and many I’ve had to translate from Japanese thanks to an online translator), I’m going to be wanting to figure out where to buy it the minute it comes out. This is one system that is designed not just for kids, but for adults too. Maybe it’s because the manufacturer had to compete against the impressive PSP, or maybe its because Nintendo is always trying to outdo itself. I’m not sure what made the Gods decide that they wanted to mess with the DS formula in order to design a new handheld gaming device, but it looks like they outdid themselves again, making an absolutely amazing product even better.
A good friend of mine thinks that I’m crazy to buy the new version, especially since I have the slim DS and love it, but I don’t. I know that the DSi is going to be much different than the DS, simply because the screen is bigger, the graphics are better, and you can now save things on a small memory card, which is something that I’ve never been able to do before with my handheld games. Before, if one of my gaming systems died, I lost everything that I did on it. Now, however, I can save the game to the memory card and can even use it on someone else’s machine if I wish!
Yes, I definitely have plans to buy a DSi when it comes out, and I absolutely can’t wait. The only complaint I have right now is to wonder why Nintendo chose to release it first overseas where we can read all the reviews and learn about it (and drool) and to not release it here at the same time! That would have made my dreams come true.
